It’s the last day of 2022!
As a leader, you may be asking yourself the following questions:
Did I accomplish everything I set out to in 2022?
Did I reach all the goals I set for myself in 2022?
Did I always act in the way I intended to in 2022?
Did I always treat myself and others as kindly as I'd hoped to in 2022?
I've been asking myself those questions too. And here's my answer to all of them.
I didn't.
I didn't accomplish everything I set out to do this year, and I didn't reach all my goals. I didn't always act in the way I intended to, or as kindly as I would have like.
And that is okay. Because I’m not perfect. As a person, and as a leader. And neither is anyone else…including you!
So today, if you are taking some time for reflection and introspection on this last day of 2022, please do it with kindness…to yourself and others. Because truth is, for the most part, everyone is doing their best, and change, learning and progress all take time. And they are accelerated through kindness.
Beating yourself (or others) up about failures and shortcomings won’t likely lead to positive change in the future. And it doesn't give those you lead a good model about how to practice reflection themselves.
A better method to model is reflecting kindly! That means thinking about what you can do to help others (and yourself) overcome obstacles that got in the way, and come up with new ways to keep moving forward in a positive manner. Then, take action!
Because tomorrow is a new day…and a new year…and your kind, positive reflections will give you (and others) the impetus to keep going and try again!
And that is what Kind Leadership is all about!
Wishing everyone lots of kindness and Kind Leadership in 2023!
