Stop Being Nice and Start Leading Kind - The Happy Engineer Podcast

It's been a great week for podcasts here at KindLeadership.org! If you want more details on the difference between being "nice" and "kind" as it applies to leadership, this one is for you!

I had a really great discussion a few weeks ago with Zach White of Oasis of Change on his Happy Engineer Podcast.

So often I'm asked about the difference between "nice" and "kind" and why it's so important for leaders to understand. During our discussion, Zach and I take a deep dive on this issue to clarify that "leading with kindness" is leading with strength, not weakness!

I loved our discussion...and the special focus on engineering!

Here's what you will hear during our podcast:

[00:00:00] Karyn discusses leadership crisis and its impact.

[00:03:06] Leaders’ negative words have a lasting impact.

[00:06:46] Check thoughts, reframe unkind self-talk, substitute.

[00:12:13] Kindness is action arising from empathy.

[00:18:44] Step outside your comfort zone, empathize.

[00:23:55] Kindness creates positive effects and outcomes.

[00:26:13] Kindness doesn’t always guarantee desired results.

[00:30:09] Strength is needed to mentor and help. Weakness is losing temper and firing. Kindness takes strength. Model behavior and create a kinder world.

[00:35:43] “Follow Karyn, get free kindness book.”

[00:37:15] The first step: decisive and immediate.
